Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department narcotics deputies remove marijuana plants from a Castaic home Wednesday morning.

Officers Seize 500 Marijuana Plants n Deputies say neighbors reported strange odors and sounds˙coming from the Castaic home.

Deputies seized about 500 marijuana plants worth an estimated $250,000 during a raid of a Castaic home Wednesday morning.

Derrek Cordova, 20, of Mission Hills and Pavei Asatryan, 19, of Woodland Hills were arrested at the home, l ocated at 29859 Berkshire Place, said Sgt. Robert Harms, who works in the narcotics unit of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The two men, who are believed to have been renting the house, were booked at the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

The cannabis plants were found in the home’s garage, where elaborate lights and a water and air systems were used to cultivate the plants, Harms said.

Deputies said they were tipped off to the home by neighbors who reported a strange odor and noise coming out of the residence, Harms said.

One neighbor, who lives on Gibraltar Lane, across the street from the home, said she noticed something was not right when the tenants moved in and neglected the front lawn.

The woman, who did not wish to be identified, and others in the neighborhood watch program came forward to sheriff’s deputies when they noticed the odor and noise.

On Wednesday, a stream of green-colored water soaked the floor of the garage and spilled onto the driveway as detectives destroyed the cannabis plants, many of which had grown more than 3 feet tall.

Several neighbors looked on as deputies searched the home.

A landscaper, who works at some of the homes on Gibraltar Lane, said he noticed that expensive-looking cars would pull up in front of the home for only a few minutes at a time before leaving again.

Harms said it is unusual for people to rent homes to people who grow marijuana. He said when growers are found, they typically live in barren surroundings.

“The home was sparse of furnishings, indicating that they’re just renting for the purpose of caring for the plants,” Harms said.

One of the neighbors on Gibraltar Lane said he believes that another person actually rents the home. Narcotics detectives are investigating the homeowner’s and renters’ identities.

Cordova and Asatryanare are scheduled to appear in Superior Court on Friday.
