'The Wire' Creator David Simon Has a Counteroffer for Eric Holder

By Ray Gustini Jun 10, 2011 We're going to blame the Times of London pay wall for the fact we're just now seeing The Wire creator David Simon's emailed response to the paper following attorney general Eric Holder's light-hearted plea for another season of The Wire at a drug policy event in Washington last Tuesday. "I want to speak directly to [Co-creator Ed] Burns and Mr. Simon: Do another season of The Wire," Holder said, adding, "I have a lot of power Mr. Burns and Mr. Simon."

Late last week, Simon replied with a counteroffer:

The Attorney-General's kind remarks are noted and appreciated. I've spoken to Ed Burns and we are prepared to go to work on season six of

The Wire

if the Department of Justice is equally ready to reconsider and address its continuing prosecution of our misguided, destructive and dehumanising drug prohibition.

Earlier this month, Attorney General Eric Holder was on a panel with cast members from The Wire when he said this: "Having looked at those clips again, I'm reminded how great that series was. I want to speak directly to [Ed] Burns and [David] Simon: Do another season of The Wire ... I want another season or I want a movie. I have a lot of power, Mr. Burns and Mr. Simon." Well, Simon has now responded, in slightly less jocular fashion: "The Attorney-General's kind remarks are noted and appreciated. I've spoken to Ed Burns and we are prepared to go to work on season six of The Wire if the Department of Justice is equally ready to reconsider and address its continuing prosecution of our misguided, destructive and dehumanising drug prohibition."

Também tem que a HBO tem uma agenda liberal mesmo, dá pra perceber na programação deles, eles que fizeram os dois filmes do Dr. Kevorkian, defensor da eutanásia. Tem vários outros falando de maconha, liberdades individuais e críticas ao sistema americano, um autoritarismo disfarçado de democracia, está repercutindo muito bem a causa, e parece que a guerra às drogas pode estar perto do fim, mas há de se esperar a reação dos contrários à reforma ainda, e eles são muitos.

a primeira temporada é excelente se passa em Baltimore mostrando a vida do traficante e

os coxa querendo pegar eles com escuta e todo aparato,muito interessante pelos laços que o crime organizado faz com o próprio estado....
